Shipwreck Ceramics found in Southest Asia

The ceramics found in Southeast Asia countries, both burial and shipwreck artifacts, are proof of the once prosperous maritime trade that flourished between China and Southeast Asia since the Tang Dynasty.  Quanzhou in Fujian  was the main port of export for the many of the ceramics.  Due to the high demand, since the Song Dynasty, many kilns were built along the coastal region  of Fujian to produce the ceramics for export.   Besides the white/qingbai/blue and white  wares from Jiangxi and the Longquan /Yue celadon of Zhejiang, the bulk of the ceramics could be traced to their Fujian origin.  The publication of the findings of excavations of Fujian kiln sites  by the Chinese archeologists have enable us to more confidently pin-point the place of production of many of the items.

In the last few years, a number of celadon wares have been salvaged.   They  bear close resemblance to those produced in kilns in Lianjiang and Putian, such as the below shards from the kilns.

Celadon shard of a bowl with cloud pattern found in Lianjiang Pukou kiln
Shards of bowl with floral motif found in Putian Zhuangbian Kiln
